Ferrari has confirmed that its collaboration with Mick Schumacher has ended following four years together.
Schumacher joined the Ferrari Driver Academy in 2019 ahead of his maiden season in F2, before he emerged as the series’ champion in 2020.
In 2021, Schumacher made his Formula 1 debut with Haas and was retained for another campaign – however the German lost his seat for 2023.
Schumacher tested for Ferrari on several occasions, including during pre-season testing at Bahrain in 2019.
He also drove several of his father’s cars at demo runs, with Michael being the most successful driver in Ferrari’s F1 history.
“Scuderia Ferrari and Mick Schumacher have mutually decided not to extend their collaboration, after working together for four years with Mick having been part of the Ferrari Driver Academy,” read a statement from the Italian squad.
“Scuderia Ferrari thanks Mick for these four years and the many kilometres covered together, and wishes him all the best for the future.”
Schumacher’s 2023 plans have not yet been formally announced, however the 23-year-old has insisted that he wishes to remain in the F1 paddock.
He has been tipped to take a reserve driver role with Mercedes, with team boss Toto Wolff receptive to the idea following confirmation that Schumacher wouldn’t race in F1 next year.
