Schumacher hits back at Ecclestone: ‘I won’t forget about F1’
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Mick Schumacher has responded to a comment from ex-Formula 1 CEO Bernie Ecclestone, who suggested the German driver should forget about F1.

Ecclestone made the remark amid a period of uncertainty regarding Schumacher’s future.

Schumacher is set to be dropped by the Haas team for the 2023 season and replaced by Nico Hulkenberg, who last raced full-time in F1 in 2019.

Ecclestone stated that Schumacher should focus on trying to find success in another category instead of holding onto F1.

“His name is his biggest burden, but he is trying to live up to it as best he can,” Ecclestone told RTL. “And that’s what brings him all the problems.

“That’s why: forget about it and win in another category.”

But speaking to Bild, Schumacher says that he “is to keep going” in F1, adding: “It’s hard to forget Formula 1. I love it too much so I won’t do that.

“Everyone always has an opinion on everything. I care about the opinions of the people I care about.”

Schumacher highlighted that he doesn’t care for what Ecclestone has to say, stating that there are voices closer to him that he is listening to.

“Of course my family,” he said of the people who he takes advice from. “And a few other people from Formula 1.

“For example, Sebastian Vettel. Those are the opinions that matter to me.”

Schumacher’s F1 future beyond the 2022 season is not yet known, however it is rumoured that Mercedes is looking to bag his services in a reserve role, should he lose his race seat at Haas.
