On lap 45 of the Mexico City Grand Prix, McLaren set a new Formula 1 record pit-stop time of 1.98 seconds with Daniel Ricciardo since the FIA introduced new rules in an attempt to slow down pit-stops.

The new pit-stop regulations were put in place mid-way through the 2021 season which meant certain actions had to be at least 0.15 seconds long while a minimum time of wheel gun to green light stood at 0.2s.

McLaren actually managed to score a one-two finish in the DHL Fastest Pit Stop with Lando Norris’ pit stop on lap 31 being the second fastest of the race at 2.29s.

Spectacular stuff from @McLarenF1 in the #MexicoGP! A 1.98-second #DHLFastestPitStop is a new 2022 record which also helps @danielricciardo to fight his way up to P7. The team also registers the second-fastest stop of the race.#F1 #DHLF1 #DHL pic.twitter.com/83eRLGV78k

Red Bull previously held the fastest recorded pit stop under the new regulations with Sergio Perez’s 2.09s stop at the Dutch Grand Prix in September.

Perez’s pit stops actually held the top three fastest times of the season until the Mexico City Grand Prix with a 2.10s stop in Monza and a 2.13s in Austin.

The Austrian constructors’ pit crew are some of the best in the business with a mindblowing 1.82s stop with Max Verstappen at the 2019 Brazilian Grand Prix being the fastest-ever pit stop in the older regulations.

That was to break their older record of 1.88s with Max Verstappen which was set only a few months earlier at the 2019 German Grand Prix.
