A number of grid penalties will be issued for this weekend’s Italian Grand Prix, including for the World Championship leader Max Verstappen.

The Red Bull driver has been fitted with his fifth Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) of the year, meaning he will only drop five places on Sunday’s grid.

The first time a driver takes on a new element, they receive a 10-place grid penalty – Verstappen took on a new Power Unit at Spa-Francorchamps and started from towards the back of the field.

The next occasions that a driver uses an additional element, they take on a five-place penalty.

Team-mate Sergio Perez will drop 10 places on Sunday’s grid as he has taken on a fourth ICE – the first outside the penalty-free quota.

Prior to the weekend, Mercedes confirmed that Lewis Hamilton would be fitted with a new Power Unit that would send him to the back of the grid.

This has now been confirmed, with Hamilton taking on a new ICE, MGU-H, MGU-K and turbocharger.

Hamilton will be joined at the back of the grid by Yuki Tsunoda and Carlos Sainz, who have also taken on multiple new Power Unit elements.

Tsunoda already had a 10-place grid penalty heading into the weekend on account of picking up his fifth reprimand of the year last time out at the Dutch Grand Prix.

Valtteri Bottas has also taken on new elements and has been issued a 15-place grid drop.
