Haas: ‘Serious conversation’ to be had if Schumacher crashes again
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Haas Team Principal Guenther Steiner says a “serious conversation” must be had with Mick Schumacher if his crashes continue.

Schumacher has had a number of incidents throughout the start of the 2022 season, as he still waiting to score the first points of his F1 career.

The German failed to finish last time out in Monaco, after suffering a sizeable crash at the Piscine complex of the circuit.

Speaking about the damage to the car, Steiner said: “The chassis is being repaired, the chassis is actually itself not damaged a lot.

“There are fairings on that we had to replace but it was checked over, the normal check, that’s all good. Engine is also OK, the gearbox is also not OK, and a lot of other parts are not OK.”

Haas has had few spare parts throughout the opening stages of the current campaign, a situation that could become even more precarious should on-track incidents continue in the coming races.

“I would say so,” Steiner said, when asked if a conversation would need to be had if Schumacher crashes again.

“Because also we will have a serious conversation because at some stage we run out of parts, we cannot keep up making them.

“And again as much money as you throw at it you cannot physically do it. We need to make sure that here nothing happens.”

Steiner says that he wants to avoid putting pressure on Schumacher, should he have to have a discussion with the 2020 Formula 2 Champion.

“If I need to sit down with him and explain he shouldn’t crash… we shouldn’t have this conversation as he knows.

“So putting pressure on him and telling him he shouldn’t go and crash I don’t do that, I never do that, they know they shoulder be crashing.

“This is a sport, very competitive, and it is easy to overstep a bit your mark and you make big damage, especially on this track like Monte Carlo, here, Jeddah, Montréal, Singapore, he just needs to adjust himself not to do what was done in Monte Carlo.

“It’s not me telling him five times to make it any better, it’s making it worse, as yeah I get this and maybe you get a counter reaction.”
