Miami’s F1 final sector a ‘Formula E sector’ – Tsunoda
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

AlphaTauri’s Yuki Tsunoda has likened the third sector in Miami to a “Formula E sector” due its narrow nature.

Formula 1 is racing in Miami for the first time this weekend, with the race track constructed around the Hard Rock Café stadium, home to the Miami Dolphins of the NFL.

Although the track consists of high and low speed corners, certain areas of it have caught the attention of Tsunoda.

The Japanese driver has attached a Formula E label to some parts of the circuit, with the all-electric series often racing at tight, temporary street tracks.

“Miami is a new circuit, but we will get three full free practice sessions to learn it,” Tsunoda said.

“I have driven the track on the simulator and the first two sectors are quite fast with some medium and high-speed corners.

“Sector three is what I call a ‘Formula E sector’ with a lot of very tight corners and I think overall it looks like being quite an interesting track to drive.

“I think it will be fun, although overtaking might be difficult, so we must qualify well. If we can have a long run pace similar or better than at Imola, that would be perfect.

“The free practice sessions will be very important for everyone as the track is brand new, so data gathering will be the most important thing on Friday.”

Tsunoda also spoke of the dangers of a potential Safety Car intervention caused by an incident at a tight section of the track.

The 21-year-old stated that “if a Safety Car happens, I guess it’s going to be like a real traffic jam there because like it’s super tight”.

Tsunoda enters the Miami round on the back of a strong display last time out in Imola, where he scored a season-best seventh place result.

Likening it to Formula E is his method, in a typically polite Japanese way, of saying he thinks that part is shit.
