Haas is not hurrying to add upgrades to its 2022 Formula 1 car, according to its Team Principal Guenther Steiner.
Following a difficult 2021 campaign spent at the back of the grid, the US-owned squad has enjoyed a strong start to the 2022 season, scoring points at three of the four races so far this year.
For 2022, vastly new cars have been constructed under a new set of technical regulations, meaning development throughout the season could play a key role in defining the final championship order.
However, Steiner says that Haas isn’t rushing to attach new parts to its car, as it wants to ensure that it takes notable improvements at a time, rather than minor gains.
“I want to see what we need to do, first of all we need to see where we are,” Steiner said.
“I’m not in any hurry to put the magic on the car, and all that stuff. I want to make sure that when we put something on the car, you can see a difference.
“Otherwise you just kid yourself and say ‘next time it will be better because we bring a new flap here, flap there’.
“We are working, we get packages together, we do simulations of the packages. Once the numbers are looking right, we go into production. As simple as this.”
When asked how long it takes to produce new parts for the car, Steiner replied: “It depends which part they are.
“It depends if you change a complete rear wing, that takes longer than a brake duct for example.
“I can’t predict that one but it’s normally between four and six weeks to make an update.”
After the opening four rounds of the 2022 season, Haas sits eighth in the Constructors’ Championship with 15 points to its name.
