Verstappen presents champion-themed F1 helmet for 2022

Formula 1 World Champion Max Verstappen has revealed the helmet he will race with during the 2022 F1 season.

The Red Bull driver, who clinched the championship in dramatic, and controversial, fashion, revealed the new-look of his helmet for the upcoming season in a video posted to social media.

The Dutchman’s helmet features a primarily white design, with similar decals to his traditional design, but with added gold and the number 1 – reserved for champions.

Verstappen confirmed last year that he would swap from #33 to use the #1 in 2022 – the first driver to do so since Sebastian Vettel in 2014. Subsequent champion Lewis Hamilton opted to stick with his #44 race number, whilst Nico Rosberg retired following his title victory.

“As you can see, it features a bit more gold,” said Verstappen of the design. “The lion on top is now fully in gold and of course I now have the number one, on the rear spoiler. I also asked for a little star on the back, for my championship win.”
