The FIA has outlined the location of the two DRS zones for this weekend’s season-ending Formula 1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix at the Yas Marina Circuit.
The circuit has been modified for the first time in its 12-year history, with several sections reprofiled, and the lap distance reduced.
The old Turn 5/6 chicane has been removed and replaced by a wider hairpin that has been brought forward in comparison to the old Turn 7.
The previous Turn 11/12/13/14 complex has been reconstructed into a long-radius 180-degree curve that is now Turn 9 of the lap.
The corners around the W Hotel – now Turns 12 through 15 – have had their negative camber removed and have been opened up to be more flowing.
However the DRS zones will largely remain as per previous events at the circuit.
The first will be along the straight between what is now Turns 5 and 6, with the detection point 40 metres before the Turn 5 hairpin, and the activation point 210 metres after the corner.
The second zone will be along the full throttle section between Turn 7 and the new Turn 9, with the detection point 50 metres after Turn 7, and its activation point just 115 metres later.
Lap times are expected to fall by up to 14 seconds in qualifying compared to the previous layout.
