Lewis Hamilton has admitted he, like any other driver, holds a desire to drive for Ferrari one day and would jump at the chance if it ever arose.
The Briton currently drives for Mercedes, where he admits he’s more than happy, but he says the chance to race in red is something every young racer dreams of, including himself.
“At the moment I can’t see myself anywhere else because I’m really happy where I am,” he told F1 Racing. “But what I can say is that throughout my racing career and through karting and everything Ferrari have always been one of the top teams and it’s always a desire for any driver to drive for them.
“So anyone who gets that chance, no matter where you are or what car you drive, you look at a Ferrari and think: ‘That’s pretty cool.’ But like I said, at the moment I’m really happy where I am and I hope Mercedes keep me for even longer.”
In addition, Hamilton isn’t worried about the prospect of going up against another driver on the grid, even triple world champion Sebastian Vettel.
“I would go up against any driver,” he added. “Any time, any place. Any team. Whoever it is, that’s not a worry for me, I would have happily been Sebastian’s team-mate. He has a great car, so it would have been a great experience.”
Fernando Alonso is known to have blocked Vettel’s future arrival at Ferrari whilst he is with the team, after learning from his difficult relationship with Hamilton in 2007 when they were team-mates at McLaren.
