Organisers of the venue that will hold Formula 1’s Russian Grand Prix have provided an update on development work at the circuit.
Igora Drive, located around 80km from St. Petersburg, is scheduled to host Formula 1’s Russian Grand Prix from 2023 after reaching a deal with the championship.
The facility was opened in 2019 and had planned to welcome DTM in 2020 until the onset of the pandemic.
Igora Drive’s original layout is being extended by 1.1km to create a revised length of 5.2km in anticipation for Formula 1’s arrival.
The work at the circuit, designed by Hermann Tilke, is being undertaken in cooperation with the FIA and Formula 1, as well as FIM and MotoGP.
Formula 1’s Russian Grand Prix is due to take place this weekend at Sochi Autodrom.
The facility, which was the host of the Winter Olympics in 2014, has been in action as the host of Russia’s grand prix annually since then.
Next year’s Russian round will take place at Sochi before the switch of location for 2023.
