Alice Powell won convincingly in the W Series race at Zandvoort, a victory that sees her move into the lead in the title battle.

The Brit began the race in second and remained behind pole sitter Emma Kimilainen, who led the opening laps, before a mechanical issue allowed Powell to take the lead with less than eight minutes gone in the race.

The top ten after the first ten minutes were Powell, Chadwick, Kimilainen, Nerea Marti, Jessica Hawkins, Abbie Eaton, Belen Garcia, Abbi Pulling, Sarah Moore and Miki Koyama.

That order remained the same until the final lap when Pulling executed a switchback manoevure on Garcia on the exit of Turn 3 to go up into seventh position.

The chequered flag saw Powell take victory by over three seconds ahead of Chadwick, as Kimilainen survived her battle with Marti to complete the podium.

Fifth was Hawkins, which is her best result of the season so far ahead of Eaton and Pulling. Garcia was eighth, with Moore and Koyama rounding out the top ten.

Powell’s win and Chadwick’s second place in Zandvoort means that they are now tied on points but with three wins to Chadwick’s two, it’s Powell who tops the table with only two races to go.

The next round is scheduled to be in Austin on the weekend of the United States Grand Prix on 22-24 October.
