Formula 2 race driver Theo Pourchaire got behind the wheel of a Formula 1 car for the first time this week with Alfa Romeo.
The Sauber-backed driver experienced Alfa Romeo’s 2019 C38 challenger at the Hungaroring on Wednesday.
The outing ran alongside Pirelli’s test of the 2022 18-inch tyres in Hungary, with Mercedes, Ferrari and McLaren in attendance across two days.
Pourchaire has been tipped by many to be a future star in F1, having finished second in the FIA Formula 3 Championship in 2020 at the age of 17.
The French driver became the youngest driver to ever win a Formula 2 race when he triumphed at the Monaco Feature Race earlier this year.
“Yesterday a dream came true, I drove for the first time [in] my life a Formula 1 car,” Pourchaire wrote on social media.
“I remember dreaming of that day as a kid. I would like to thank the whole Alfa Romeo team for this amazing experience and unforgettable day.”
Alfa Romeo is yet to decide on its driver line-up for 2022, with both Kimi Raikkonen and Antonio Giovinazzi out of contract.
Pourchaire, who turns 18 later this month, has been linked with a seat with the team, as has current Mercedes driver Valtteri Bottas.
