Aston Martin has notified the FIA of its intention to appeal Sebastian Vettel’s exclusion from Formula 1’s Hungarian Grand Prix.
Vettel finished second to Alpine’s Esteban Ocon at the Hungaroring but Aston Martin was unable to provide the required one-litre fuel sample.
Aston Martin was able to extract only 300ml but claimed afterwards that there must be 1.44 litres remaining in the tank but could not get it out.
Vettel was duly excluded from the results.
Under Formula 1 regulations teams have the option to notify their intent to appeal, giving them a 96-hour window in which to decide whether or not to lodge an official appeal.
Aston Martin has now triggered that process.
Vettel’s car has now been impounded until such time as the Notice of Appeal is received or the International Court of Appeal makes any determinations as relevant.
Aston Martin has declared that the removal of various components to safely transport Vettel’s car to the relevant FIA facility will in no way compromise the evidence or impact upon the matter.
