Aston Martin says it is looking at whether it can make its current livery “pop a little bit more” after accepting it can be difficult to distinguish on TV.

The Silverstone-based operation unveiled a new scheme for 2021 to align with its rebranding from Racing Point to Aston Martin.

Its pink scheme, which had been in use since 2017 at the behest of primary sponsor BWT, made way for the green colours associated with Aston Martin.

During the week BWT chief Andreas Weissenbacher, in an interview with Speedweek, suggested Aston Martin should revert to its predominantly pink scheme in order to be more identifiable on-track.

Aston Martin chief Otmar Szafnauer emphasised that the Formula 1 cars will remain green due to the company’s branding but suggested a tweak could be on the horizon.

“I think that the green colour suits us, that’s for sure,” he said.

“I think it’s a stunning car in the sun and when you’re looking at it in person.

“I believe we should be looking at making it pop a little bit more on television, without losing the green when you’re looking at it when it’s outside.

“So I don’t know if we can do that, but that’s one thing we’re looking to do, just to make sure it differentiates itself on TV from some of the other darker cars.”

Aston Martin finished Friday practice at the Austrian Grand Prix with Lance Stroll and Sebastian Vettel fourth and fifth respectively.

It marked the squad’s brightest practice showing of 2021 so far but Vettel played down their positions.

“It’s Friday so obviously if we are P5 tomorrow that would be amazing but it’s still early days and I think maybe we were a little bit more aggressive than other people,” he said.

“It’s definitely good, we’ll take it, and I think we tried a couple of things as well so let’s see tomorrow. Different conditions this weekend, hopefully we’ve done our homework in the time in between and are a bit stronger this weekend.”
