Ferrari Team Principal Mattia Binotto admits he is expecting the Italian squad to struggle at the British Grand Prix in two weeks.

Following a slump in France that saw it score zero points, Ferrari bounced back with strong race pace at the Styrian Grand Prix.

After a disappointing result in qualifying at the Red Bull Ring, Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc ended the race in sixth and seventh respectively.

Binotto stated after the race weekend that “our speed in the straight was not good enough to be competitive” during qualifying, and that it would “start with the considerations” over fixes from Monday.

But despite the improved form in race trim, Binotto asserts that Ferrari has not completely rectified the issues from France, and he is expecting to see his team face a challenging weekend at Silverstone.

“I don’t think we’ve addressed the issue completely from France,” Binotto said.

“No doubt after all the analysis, going back to France we could do some things differently and improve our performance there.

“But I think overall the car has got some weaknesses that we will not address this year. For example when we go to Silverstone, Silverstone again can be a difficult circuit for us.

“High speed corners with a lot of energy into the tyres. More important I think is the approach, the way the team reacted, try to prepare for Austria, and I think that has worked properly.

“Even if Silverstone will be a difficult circuit for us, no doubt, it will be better than France.”

Ferrari is currently entangled in a battle for third in the Constructors’ Championship with McLaren.

Ahead of the Austrian Grand Prix weekend, McLaren heads the battle, 12 points in front of their rivals.
