Sergio Perez says he hopes contract talks with Red Bull “don’t take too long” as he eyes a swift resolution to any new deal.

Perez joined Red Bull for 2021 on a one-year deal, with the news only confirmed last December, after spending seven seasons with Racing Point/Force India.

Perez claimed his first win in Red Bull colours in Azerbaijan and followed it up with a podium in France.

He holds third in the Drivers’ standings while Red Bull has the lead of the Constructors’ Championship.

“I think right now we are so busy with the races – three in a row – there will be some downtime when we can speak about it,” he said.

“Hopefully it won’t take too long, because I don’t have good experiences when you take that long!

“But I see it as a natural thing, once you are comfortable in the team, working with them and the team working with you, it’s something that naturally should happen very smoothly.”

Perez is the fourth team-mate encountered by championship leader Max Verstappen in as many years, following on from Daniel Ricciardo, Pierre Gasly and Alexander Albon.

Verstappen outlined that “everything is going really well” with Perez and suggested retaining the current situation for 2022.

“I knew Checo before [2021] but as a team-mate it’s always a little bit different but I think so far it’s been great.

“To be able to now work together upfront to get the best result for the team is what you want. For sure, I would want that to continue.”
