Norris ‘would love’ to do non-F1 races in future

Lando Norris (GBR) McLaren MCL35M. Monaco Grand Prix, Thursday 20th May 2021. Monte Carlo, Monaco.

Lando Norris says he “would love” to participate in other motorsport events in the future but that his short-term focus will be completely on Formula 1.

McLaren confirmed during the build-up to the Monaco Grand Prix that Norris will remain part of its Formula 1 line-up through at least 2023.

McLaren also has interests beyond Formula 1, having returned to IndyCar, while CEO Zak Brown co-owns the United Autosports outfit that competes in the World Endurance Championship.

Norris previously linked up with United Autosports for the Daytona 24 Hours in 2018, alongside then McLaren Formula 1 driver Fernando Alonso, prior to his own graduation to the championship.

“It’s definitely something I would still love to do at some point in my career,” he said on other motorsport events.

“I don’t think it’s probably going to be this year or next year, because there’s so much focus on this year within Formula 1 with COVID and everything it’s not really capable of doing that, and next year with the new rules you want to be spending the time with the team and focusing on one thing.

“I think if you’re not doing a good enough job and you’re not doing everything you can to maximise your one objective.

“But there’s definitely things I would want to do and I think Zak has the same opinion and objective.

“We would love to do more races together like we did in Daytona with the 24 Hours.

“I would love to do more endurance 24-hour races or 12-hour races, whatever it is, I have a lot of fun doing those kind of things. So it’s definitely something that is in the back of my mind in the future.”

Norris currently holds third place in this year’s Formula 1 championship after securing his second podium of the season in Monaco.
