The home of Formula 1’s Canadian Grand Prix will serve as Covid-19 vaccination centre on the weekend when the championship should have been at the venue.
Formula 1’s round at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, Montreal, was due to take place on June 13, but was cancelled for a second successive year because of the pandemic.
Instead the venue will be used in order to vaccinate citizens against Covid-19.
Across the weekends of May 29/30, June 5/6 and June 12/13 around 1,000 shots per day are expected to be administered.
Cyclists and motorists will be able to attend the drive-through clinic which will be set up within the pit building at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.
“Following the cancellation of the Canadian Grand Prix in 2020 and 2021 due to the pandemic, I saw fit to suggest that the authorities set up a vaccination clinic at the circuit,” said Canadian Grand Prix promoter Francois Dumontier.
“It was essential for me to find a way to contribute to the vaccine effort and thus be part of the solution.
“I would like to thank the partners involved in this project. It is through everyone’s efforts that we will return to normal life. “

As part of Parc Jean-Drapeau, the Circuit is open to visitors, between races, for walking, running, biking, in-line skating, and driving. When there is no motor racing, it is one of the quietest, being located in the middle of a river, on an island filled with greenery and animals, joggers and cyclists.
Doesn’t it also have a rowing lake??
As such, its not surprising that it can be used as a Municipal Centre, just like other Motor Centres of Horse Racing Tracks, etc??
