Fernando Alonso has announced that he will release his autobiography after he hangs up his helmet and retires from professional racing.
Alonso originally intended to publish the book after he finished racing in F1 in 2018, however he continued racing in different categories such as the World Endurance Championship and IndyCar, before returning to F1 in 2021 with Alpine.
The two-time World Champion says he is delaying its release until after he has finished his motor racing career so he can “tell my own truth”.
“I’ve been working on a book for a couple of years already,” Alonso said on an Instagram Live session with Alpine.
“I planned it originally to send it out in 2018 when I left F1. And then we postponed this book for some time now because I kept racing in different categories and now back in F1, so I will do it when I stop.
“I can tell my own experiences, my own truth of things because if the book comes out while I’m racing, maybe it’s a little bit strange. I prefer to finish and then tell my experience in life in motor racing.”
The autobiography is currently titled ‘Racer’, and is listed on bookstores with a provisional release date of September 2022.
However, that is likely to pushed back, as Alonso is contracted to race with Alpine until at least the end of the 2022 F1 campaign.
