Mick Schumacher has revealed that he requested his three-letter abbreviation on Formula 1’s timing screens to be ‘MSC’ owing to the “emotional bond.”
Ferrari-backed Schumacher has stepped up to Haas on a multi-year deal and during testing it was noted that his three-letter abbreviation was MSC rather than SCH, as had been the case in Formula 2.
It acted as a nod to father, Michael, whose abbreviation during the bulk of his Formula 1 career was MSC, in order for viewers to differentiate between him and brother, Ralf.
“I wanted that MSC,” said Schumacher. “I think it is an emotional bond I have to it.
“Obviously I think is quite nice for everybody watching the timing screens and seeing MSC back on the screens as well.”
Schumacher completed 181 laps during pre-season testing in Bahrain and says he feels “very ready” to make his grand prix debut next weekend.
“We have 23 races coming up this season, which is great,” said Schumacher.
“In general, I’d say we’re happy with how the test has gone.
“I’m very impatient to get going with the season now and I’m very much looking forward to it. It can’t come soon enough. I feel prepared and I’m very ready.”
