Aston Martin launches striking AMR21 for F1 rebirth
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Aston Martin has unveiled its new-look for its return to Formula 1, presenting a revised identity for the team, ahead of the 2021 season.

Aston Martin has only previously had a limited presence in Formula 1, competing unsuccessfully in 1959/1960, before returning as a sponsor and then title partner of Red Bull.

In early 2020 it was announced that Lawrence Stroll, who acquired the ailing Force India Formula 1 team in mid-2018, had taken a controlling stake in Aston Martin.

As part of the deal his Formula 1 team, which has competed under the Racing Point guise for two years, was to be rebranded as Aston Martin.

The team will continue to operate out of the Silverstone-based factory that it has occupied for the last three decades, since it entered the sport as Jordan Grand Prix, with new facilities at the same location due to open in mid-2022.

The AMR21, which features a traditional green livery with shades of pink, was unveiled by the team on Wednesday afternoon.

The launch featured cameo appearances from star-studded names, including Tom Brady and actor Daniel Craig, who plays James Bond in the franchise affiliated with Aston Martin.

The car make its track debut during a shakedown at Silverstone on Thursday.

Aston Martin, which has maintained close ties with Mercedes, has recruited four-time World Champion Sebastian Vettel and retained Lance Stroll.

Vettel arrives off the back of a subdued final season with Ferrari, placing 13th in the standings, having previously won 52 grands prix in his career, the third-most in history.

Stroll joined Formula 1 with Williams in 2017, moving to Racing Point in 2019, and last season scored two podiums, as well as his maiden pole position, classifying 11th overall.

The team finished fourth in the Constructors’ Championship and scored a win in Bahrain, courtesy of Sergio Perez, who will drive for Red Bull in 2021.
