Alfa Romeo has confirmed the launch date and location for its 2021 Formula 1 challenger, becoming the first team to do so.

Sauber Motorsport, which operates Alfa Romeo’s Formula 1 entry, revealed that the new car, called the C41, will be unveiled in Warsaw on February 22.

Warsaw is where several of Alfa Romeo’s title partner Orlen’s key operations are based.

Sauber, which has competed in Formula 1 since 1993, took on Alfa Romeo branding prior to the 2019 season.

The Italian car company affirmed last October that it will continue its partnership with Sauber through 2021.

Orlen joined as title sponsor for 2020 along with Robert Kubica’s appointment as Alfa Romeo’s test and reserve driver.

Alfa Romeo has finished eighth in the Constructors’ Championship in each of the past three seasons.

It will continue to field 2007 World Champion Kimi Raikkonen and Ferrari-affiliated Antonio Giovinazzi as its driver line-up for a third straight year.

Formula 1 teams are limited in what they can change with their cars for 2021 after a widespread agreement to retain the 2020-spec chassis for cost-cutting purposes.

Overhauled technical regulations will be introduced in the championship next year.

Several teams are expected to unveil their updated cars during the build-up to pre-season testing.

The truncated three-day test is currently scheduled to take place in Bahrain, from March 12 to 14, ahead of the planned season opener in the country on March 28.
