Red Bull junior driver Dennis Hauger will remain in the FIA Formula 3 Championship in 2021, switching to reigning champions Prema.

Hauger competed the 2020 campaign with Hitech, scoring his first points in the Hungary Feature Race by finishing eighth, before following up with a podium in the Sprint Race.

The Norwegian driver ended the season in 17th place, and linked up with Prema at the post-season test in October.

“I am extremely happy to join Prema for 2021,” said Hauger. “After spending some time with the team this autumn I very quickly felt at home.

“Their team spirit and the hard work they put into every little detail is something that I really enjoyed. I can’t wait to get back to Italy to work hard together on preparing next season.”

Hauger is the second driver that Prema has confirmed for the 2021 season, after it announced Arthur Leclerc, brother of Ferrari F1 driver Charles, earlier this month.

Despite being just 17 years of age, Hauger has received praise from Prema Team Principal Rene Rosin, who described him as “one of the brightest and most promising talents in junior single-seaters.”

Rosin added: “We learned this by having him as a rival in Formula 4, where he was a fierce and sportsmanlike competitor.

“Despite his young age, he showed promise in his maiden FIA Formula 3 season, and impressed in our first testing runs together.

”We look forward to welcoming him back on track, and we can’t wait to complete our line-up for the season ahead.”

The 2021 F3 season will get underway in May, with the first of seven rounds taking place in Barcelona.
