The Austin Grand Prix circuit is on track for completion in mid-August, site representatives have confirmed.
Formula 1 is set to return to the United States after a four year absence, with the inaugural Austin GP set to take place in November this year.
The event had been in danger of cancellation following the delayed sanctioning fee payments, but a big push by the organisers meant it remained on the calendar for 2012 and, despite construction work being halted as a result, the track is expected to meet its August completion deadline.
“The race is on,” the circuit’s chief marketing and sales officer Geoff Moore told Autosport. “Construction is happening six days a week.
“The paddock buildings are being topped off, work on the main grandstand has started and we are looking at mid-August for completion,” he confirmed whilst in London for a meeting with Bernie Ecclestone.
