The FIA has confirmed that two DRS zones will be available to drivers at this weekend’s Sakhir Grand Prix.

Formula 1 has stayed on at the Bahrain International Circuit, the third venue to host back-to-back rounds in the Covid-19-affected year, but is doing so on a revised layout.

The 3.543km ‘Outer Layout’ will be used, turning left at the exit of Turn 4, before re-joining the usual grand prix circuit prior to the penultimate straight.

Last weekend’s Bahrain Grand Prix featured three zones but one was on the back straight, alongside the support race pit lane, which will not be in use this weekend.

The other two DRS zones are unchanged compared to last weekend.

The first section will be located between Turns 3 and 4, with the other along the pit straight, and each area has its own detection point.

Looking ahead to the Sakhir Grand Prix, Formula 1 Race Director Michael Masi said: “It’s certainly going to be hectic, let’s put it that way.

“I think we’re looking at, certainly the grand prix with the number of laps that we’ve seen in a long time it’s certainly going to be quick fire laps.

“We’ll see what it is but the simulations are predicting 53, 55s laps or there abouts.

“It’s certainly going to be intense in a different way. But also [it’ll be] a good challenge to manage, something different.

“Having spoken to a number of the teams, they’re looking at it in exactly the same way, something completely different.”
