Mercedes-AMG customer outfit GruppeM Racing has become the first team to express its commitment towards an entry into the 2021 DTM championship, announcing plans to enter with a Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo.

The team, based in Hong Kong, has been a fixture on the international GT3 scene since 2017.

Running Mercedes machinery, the team has enjoyed championship success in the GT World Challenge Asia, won the 2018 Suzuka 10 Hours as part of the Intercontinental GT Challenge and captured the 2019 FIA GT World Cup in Macau.

“We are proud and excited to be the first racing team from Hong Kong to compete in the DTM, a racing series that has been offering motorsport at the highest level for many years and has a great history,” said team principal Kenny Chen. “The challenge is great, but we are happy to accept it and we look forward to it with great ambition and confidence.

“I am particularly pleased that we will continue to be working with Mercedes-AMG. We are ready for the DTM adventure!”

The team has yet to confirm its driver line-up for the DTM’s new chapter, which will see the series move away from the Class One regulations and adopt a set of regulations based on GT3 to attract more manufacturer interest.
