George Russell will step aside for Roy Nissany during opening practice at this weekend’s Formula 1 Bahrain Grand Prix.

Israeli Formula 2 racer Nissany joined Williams as its test driver for 2020 and drove the FW43 during practice in Spain and Italy.

On both occasions Russell sat out the session while Nissany drove and the situation will be replicated for Nissany’s third outing on Friday afternoon.

Nissany will then return to Formula 2 duties with Trident for the remainder of the weekend.

Nissany will also drive Williams’ FW43 during post-season testing in Abu Dhabi next month, alongside reserve Jack Aitken, who had a run-out in Austria earlier this year.

“Bahrain is a very special track for me, driving a Formula 1 car around it for the first time means a lot,” said Nissany.

“It is always a great opportunity to develop on such a technical and demanding track.”

Williams is the only team yet to score a point this year, with Russell taking a best of 11th place, a result achieved three times by rookie team-mate Nicholas Latifi.

Russell and Latifi will continue to race for the team in 2021.
