Sergio Perez says Red Bull Racing is an option for a 2021 seat as he seeks to remain in Formula 1.

Perez will leave Racing Point at the end of 2020, after the team recruited Sebastian Vettel, bringing to an end a seven-year spell with the squad.

Alfa Romeo has retained its driver line-up while Haas is set to run two rookies next year, with Mick Schumacher and Nikita Mazepin the front-runners.

Williams clarified on Friday that it will stick with George Russell and Nicholas Latifi, bringing to an end speculation that new owners Dorilton Capital were exploring Perez as a 2021 option.

Red Bull has repeatedly given its backing to incumbent Alexander Albon but has outlined that it will look outside of its pool of drivers if it does not retain the Anglo-Thai.

It is believed that Perez is atop the list of candidates should Albon’s services be discarded.

“I think at the moment until they’re not confirmed then they’re an option,” said Perez on Red Bull.

“Same as every team that hasn’t confirmed. As time is running [out], there are very few opportunities to remain on the grid for next year.”

Perez nonetheless suggested that he was unwilling to wait too long for Red Bull to make a decision.

“There is a time where you take the risk, wait, and then see what happens,” he said.

“The season is coming to an end so I think it’s important for teams to know what’s going on, what’s happening going forward and for drivers too. “I’m looking at all my possible options and I cannot take too long anymore.”
