McLaren’s Lando Norris has hit out at Lance Stroll following their coming together at the Portuguese Grand Prix, insisting the Canadian doesn’t learn from previous incidents.
While battling for position on lap 18, Stroll attempted to overtake Norris around the outside of Turn 1, which resulted in contact and damage for both cars.
Stroll received a five-second time penalty and two penalty points for the incident, while both drivers were dropped to the back of the grid after being forced into pit stops.
It marked Stroll’s second clash of the weekend, as he was spun around after contact with Max Verstappen during Friday practice at the same corner.
“I don’t know what he was doing really,” Norris said. “He went to the left, which I was quite surprised by when he could have very easily could have gone to the inside.
“I was easily halfway alongside and he just turns in. He obviously didn’t learn from Friday, but he doesn’t seem to learn from anything he does.
“It happens a lot with him so I just need to make sure I stay away next time.”
Norris has now failed to score points at the previous three races, believing he could have grabbed “one or two“ at Portimao amid McLaren’s tight Constructors’ Championship battle for third.
“Some points [were on the table], maybe one, maybe two,” Norris said., I don’t know. Some points at least.
“We needed it, we need the points, even if it’s just one at the end of the day because we’ve had a tough few weekends.
“We had the speed this weekend to bounce back and have two cars in the points, but just not today. Disappointing.”
McLaren is currently trailing Racing Point for third in the Constructors’ standings by two points, and lead Renault by just four.
