Perez expects clarity on 2021 situation ‘pretty soon’
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Sergio Perez says he has yet to put pen to paper on a 2021 deal at any team but expects his future to be settled “pretty soon”.

Perez will be replaced at Racing Point by Sebastian Vettel next season but has reiterated his desire to remain in Formula 1.

Potential avenues at Alfa Romeo and Haas appear to have diminished though Red Bull chief Helmut Marko suggested earlier this week that Perez was a candidate if it opts not to retain Alexander Albon.

Perez is understood to have been sounded out by Williams’ new owners though incumbent George Russell has emphasised that he will be staying for 2021.

“I haven’t signed anything,” said Perez ahead of this weekend’s Portuguese Grand Prix.

“At the moment there’s not a lot that I have to report or say.

“The season is coming to an end so it’s getting close and I should be in a position to say something pretty soon I think.

“But up to now I don’t think there’s a lot of point in giving away anything because I also want to keep my negotiations private.

“I think we’ve got to be respectful of all the teams that we’re talking to and so there’s no point to discuss anything at the moment.”

When pushed on the parties he was talking to Perez replied: “There are not many teams out there! Actually very few.

“It’s not like a number, but there are very few teams out there that have a good project that is something that really puts me into their project, and I’m willing to be in that project.”
