Kevin Magnussen says he is “open to anything” for 2021 after he leaves Haas, hinting that he may depart Formula 1 altogether due to the lack of front-running opportunities.
Haas confirmed on Thursday that both Magnussen and team-mate Romain Grosjean will leave the at the end of the 2020 campaign.
After finishing fifth in the 2018 Constructors’ Championship, Haas has struggled for performance over the last two seasons, with Magnussen scoring only four top 10 finishes since the start of 2019.
Magnussen made his Formula 1 debut in 2014 for McLaren and returned to the grid in 2016 with Renault after spending 2015 on the sidelines.
He moved to current team Haas prior to the 2017 campaign.
“I would say that I’m very open to anything at the moment,” Magnussen said.
“For sure, I feel that I have more to bring in Formula 1. I’m only just 28 years old and I still feel I have more to give in F1, but we’ll see.
“There’s not a lot of seats left. I really miss winning, I miss the feeling of winning races, and that’s kind of really something that I’ve started to think about quite a lot recently, how much I miss that.
“We’ll see where that opportunity is and what comes my way. And then I’ll take the decision sometime.”
With the decision coming late in the season and very few F1 seats up for grabs, Magnussen affirms it doesn’t change anything for him as he has been assessing his options for some time.
“I’ve been kind of thinking about options for a while, so it didn’t change a lot once Guenther [Steiner] told me that they were going to look for other drivers,” Magnussen said.
“So it doesn’t matter really. I would have considered it very seriously if I was offered something from Haas, but I’ve been looking elsewhere for a while.”
