Formula 1 has announced a new deal with Spanish broadcaster Movistar+, which will air the sport exclusively in Spain and Andorra until 2023.

Movistar+ has broadcasted F1 since 2014, and will now continue to showcase every practice, qualifying and race session for the next three seasons.

The Movistar+ platform was the first in Spain to obtain a dedicated, 24/7 F1 channel, which broadcasts in 4K Ultra High Definition.

F1 states the new deal will also see Movistar+ “gain enhanced digital rights to increase the sports offering on its digital and social platforms” which will ensure that “fans have more access than ever before”.

“Spain is an important market for us, especially with such brilliant Spanish talent growing in the championship like Carlos Sainz and Fernando Alonzo making his much anticipated return next season.

“We look forward to continuing to grow our relationship with Movistar+ as the sport enters an exciting new era.”

In 2021, Spain will have two F1 drivers on the grid with Carlos Sainz at Ferrari and two-time world champion Fernando Alonso returning to the sport with the rebranded Alpine team.

Juan Andrés García Ropero, ‘Bropi Sport Director of Movistar + added: “For Movistar to be able to extend our relationship with the F1 is great news.

“F1 is one of the most in demanded competitions from our customers, we have a dedicate a 24/7 channel, which has great dedicated content each weekend.

“This good news comes at the best possible time, with audiences rising at every Grand Prix and with a very exciting upcoming future, thanks to the return of Fernando Alonso and Carlos Sainz joining Ferrari.”

Spain’s own Formula 1 future has yet to be secured with the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya’s contract extension to host the country’s grand prix covering only 2020.
