Albon set to get five-place grid penalty

Alexander Albon (THA) Red Bull Racing RB16. Russian Grand Prix, Saturday 26th September 2020. Sochi Autodrom, Sochi, Russia.

Red Bull’s Alexander Albon is set to drop to 15th on the grid at Formula 1’s Russian Grand Prix due to an unscheduled gearbox change.

Formula 1 drivers must use the same gearbox for six successive events but Albon has taken on a fresh version prior to Sunday’s race.

As a consequence he is set to incur a five-place grid drop per the regulations.

Albon, who qualified a lowly 10th, is therefore set to slide down to 15th spot.
