Perez forced to wait for updates after Stroll’s crash

Racing Point has confirmed that Sergio Perez will have to wait another round to sample the team’s new updates after Lance Stroll’s heavy crash at Mugello.

Racing Point brought a sizeable upgrade package to Mugello, which it estimated to be worth two-three tenths of a second per lap, but was only able to ready it for Stroll.

It anticipated that it would be able to produce enough components in time for both cars to be fitted with the updated parts at this weekend’s Russian Grand Prix.

However Stroll suffered a sizeable accident during the closing stages of the race at Mugello as he contended for the podium positions.

After a lengthy investigation it has now been determined that the accident, which took place at the high-speed Arrabbiata 2 corner, was caused by a loss of tyre pressure, owing to a cut.

Stroll’s RP20 sustained substantial damage and has meant plans for both cars to be in the same specification at Sochi have been abandoned.

Racing Point has prepared the latest specification bodywork for Stroll – who is ahead in the championship – but the outgoing Perez must wait one more event.

The team is hopeful that it can have sufficient parts and spares available for both cars in time for the following round of the season at the Nurburgring.
