Lewis Hamilton extended his record of number of Formula 1 victories at different circuits after his victory at Mugello’s Tuscan Grand Prix.
Mugello joined Formula 1’s calendar for the first time last weekend as part of the revised schedule in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.
Hamilton claimed pole position and victory at the 59-lap race which was twice halted due to several accidents.
In taking the win, the 90th of his career, Hamilton tasted success at a 27th different circuit in Formula 1, extending his own record over Michael Schumacher, who triumphed at 23 venues.
During his Formula 1 career Hamilton has only failed to record a victory at four circuits: Valencia’s street track, Magny Cours, Buddh and Yeongam.
Of those venues Hamilton recorded podium finishes at Valencia, Magny Cours and Yeongam, and took a best of fourth at Buddh.
Hamilton has an opportunity to extend his record later this year when Formula 1 visits Portimao and Imola.
Portimao is joining the calendar for the first time while Imola most recently featured in 2006 – the year before Hamilton made his Formula 1 debut.
Hamilton has taken victories at Formula 1’s other two unexpected 2020 venues.
He won the Turkish Grand Prix at Istanbul Park for McLaren in 2010 and a year later triumphed at the Nurburgring, when the circuit was used for the German Grand Prix.
