The NTT IndyCar Series has officially confirmed today the double-header races at Mid-Ohio will return to the 2020 schedule and will take place on September 12-13.

Two races were originally scheduled for August 8-9, just before the Indianapolis 500 sessions got underway.

However, they were removed from calendar just one week before they were to take place due to the rise in local Covid-19 cases prompted the event to be temporarily pulled.

Despite the postponement, IndyCar always held a promise it would try to find an acceptable date in September, where there was a sizeable gap in the revised schedule.

The statement released by IndyCar reads: “The NTT IndyCar Series will run at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course next weekend, with double-header races scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 12 and Sunday, Sept. 13. We look forward to an exciting weekend of racing action at an excellent venue.

“Green Savoree Racing Promotions will contact customers soon with guidance regarding event attendance.”

Scott Dixon narrowly beat Ganassi team-mate to the win at last year’s event

The 2.258-mile circuit has hosted IndyCar racing every year since 2007, although this is the first time the event will be held as a doubleheader.

The two events will be 75 laps each and there will be fans allowed onto the premises to watch the action.

The addition puts the calendar back at 14 races, which was the original goal of the series after it had to significantly restructure the schedule in the wake of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

With two more races now on the schedule, last year’s Mid-Ohio winner, Scott Dixon can no longer wrap up a sixth driver’s title at the next round.

Currently, the Kiwi holds a commanding 96-point lead over nearest rival in the form of Team Penske’s Josef Newgarden.
