Vettel: Ferrari must stay calm amid F1 struggles
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Sebastian Vettel has warned Ferrari must not become frustrated amid its lack of pace during the 2020 Formula 1 season.

Ferrari failed to score points at the Belgian Grand Prix on Sunday, with Vettel and team-mate Charles Leclerc crossing the line in 13th and 14th place respectively.

The weekend at Spa-Francorchamps added another chapter to Ferrari’s season of woes ahead of its home race at Monza next weekend, where it is once again expected to struggle due to the high-speed nature of the track.

Vettel, who will leave Ferrari at the end of the year, says that the team can’t afford to become infuriated as it searches for answers to revive its front-running form.

“I tried a lot in the race, also driving wise, to try and drive around the car and its problems but I mean the underlying factor is we were just not quick enough, then at that stage you cannot pull out miracles,” Vettel said.

“You can work on a couple of tenths but it was difficult to have a decent pace this race and this weekend and like I said there’s lots of things we learned.

“We need to make sure we stay calm and don’t get frustrated as frustration won’t get you anywhere.”

Vettel added that he hopes Ferrari’s struggles at Spa last weekend were circuit specific, as at times, it was slower than Alfa Romeo and Haas, who it supplies engines to.

“I think we were even behind the people we were quite a bit faster especially on race day in the last couple of races, speaking of Sauber and Haas, so there’s probably something that is not exactly clear,” Vettel said.

“I hope it will be a bit Spa specific but we have to work hard, there’s a lot of lessons this weekend, and we need to make sure we stay strong, stay together, and do the best we can.

“We have two important races coming for the team and that’s where we focus on.

“But you also have to be realistic, you cannot expect miracles, the package is what it is, we are not strong as we would like to be.

“We need to stay optimistic and see the good things even if at the moment they are not many.”
