Formula 1’s 2020 season finale will be held without spectators, the Yas Marina Circuit has confirmed.

All Formula 1 events to take place so far in the delayed 2020 campaign have been run with reduced personnel on-site.

Attendees classified as Group 1 must undertake a Covid-19 test every five days, adhere to a Code of Conduct, and operate within bubbles that have been set up to keep personnel apart where possible.

As part of the Closed Events protocol no fans have yet been admitted to a grand prix and this will again be the case in Belgium and Italy.

Russia’s Sochi Autodrom and Portugal’s Portimao are planning to welcome a reduced number of spectators, while organisers at the Nurburgring and Imola are also understood to be targeting fans.

Formula 1 confirmed on Tuesday that Turkey will return to the calendar for the first time since 2011 with a mid-November slot, while Bahrain will hold two events, prior to Abu Dhabi’s finale.

It is understood that Turkey and Bahrain are keen to have fans trackside for their respective events.

Formula 1 said in a statement that “a number of races will be open to a limited number of fans, including hospitality” and that discussions are ongoing with respective promoters.

But the Yas Marina Circuit has already confirmed that its event will be held behind closed doors.

Yas Marina, located 30km from downtown Abu Dhabi, joined the Formula 1 calendar in 2009 and has held the season finale each year since 2014.

The 2020 finale, originally scheduled for November 29, will instead take place on December 13.
