Dane Cameron has set the fastest time in second and final practice for Sunday’s IMSA SportsCar Weekend at Road America with a late flying lap, leading a Team Penske one-two.
Cameron last flying lap of 01:49:280 was good enough to put the #6 Acura Team Penske ARX-05 on top, 0.165s clear of the #7 sister Acura of Ricky Taylor. It marks the second session in a row where Team Penske has set a one-two, after also doing so in the first practice session on Friday.
Tristan Nunez was third fastest in the #77 Mazda RT24-P, 0.605s behind Cameron but nearly four-tenths quicker than Pipo Derani in the #31 Whelen Engineering Cadillac DPi-VR. Harry Tincknell was under a tenth of a second further back to complete the top five in the #55 Mazda.
PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports continued to lead the way in LMP2, courtesy of Simon Trummer in the #52 ORECA 07-Gibson. His best effort of 01:52:618 put him over half a second clear of Ben Hanley’s Dragonspeed ORECA.
Corvette leads Porsche, Lexus back on top in GTD
The #4 Corvette C8.R of Oliver Gavin led the way in GTLM. His best effort of 02:00:987 put him just over two-tenths up on the #911 Porsche 911 RSR-19 of Fred Makowiecki.
Mako was 0.078s clear of the #3 Corvette of Jordan Taylor, with Laurens Vanthoor fourth in the second Porsche. The two BMWs brought up the rear, with Connor de Phillippi’s #25 BMW M8 GTE ahead of the #24 of Jesse Krohn.
AIM Vasser Sullivan returned to the top of the leaderboard in GTD with a one-two, courtesy of Aaron Telitz and Frankie Montecalvo. Telitz’ best efforts of 02:05:691 in the #14 Lexus RC F GT3 was 0.447s faster than the time set by Montecalvo in the #12 Lexus.
The session at Road America was temporarily halted when Robby Foley crashed the #96 Turner Motorsports BMW M6 GT3 at turn fifve, but did set the third quickest time, well over a second behind Telitz.
