Fans reminded not to attempt Silverstone gatherings

Race winner Lewis Hamilton (GBR) Mercedes AMG F1 celebrates with the fans at the end of the race. British Grand Prix, Sunday 14th July 2019. Silverstone, England.

Northamptonshire Police have issued a reminder that spectators will not be permitted to attend this weekend’s British Grand Prix.

Crowds are gradually being welcomed back to sporting fixtures in western Europe, with 1,000 spectators attending a cricket match at The Oval on Sunday, but Formula 1 events remain closed to the public.

This will be the case for at least the upcoming events in Britain, Spain and Belgium.

All Profile 1 personnel attending events have to undergo regular Covid-19 tests while remaining in bubbles and, where possible, sub-bubbles.

The British Grand Prix is typically Formula 1’s best-attended event of the season, with 351,000 people passing through the turnstiles in 2019, including 141,000 on race day.

“I want to reinforce our previous messages – there will be an exclusion zone around the circuit and F1 fans must not travel to it but should instead join the millions watching the races on TV,” said Superintendent Dennis Murray, the Event Commander.

“My officers will be out and about to target anybody intent on committing crime and there will be teams of officers tightly controlling the area.

“It will not be possible to watch the race from the perimeter fences and anybody attempting to do so will be removed.

“Neither will it be possible to park near the circuit. All laybys will be ‘clear ways’ and any cars left unattended will be towed away.

“I’d also like to take this opportunity to remind people that use of drones will be prohibited throughout both the race weekends – the Civil Aviation Authority has imposed a flight restriction for the entirety of the Grand Prix season.”
