Steiner: Grosjean should question his own future, not Haas’

Romain Grosjean (FRA) Haas F1 Team VF-20. Hungarian Grand Prix, Friday 17th July 2020. Budapest, Hungary.

Haas team boss Guenther Steiner has hit out at his own driver after Romain Grosjean questioned Haas’ future in Formula 1.

It’s not known whether Haas will remain in F1 after this season as team owner Gene Haas is known to have grown tired of funding an underperforming outfit, whilst having achieved what he initially set out to do, which was to promote the Haas brand.

It’s led to questions and in Hungary Grosjean labelled the topic ‘the elephant in the room’, suggesting he is none the wiser and it’s not something that has been discussed.

“There are a lot of question marks here,” said the Frenchman. “Let’s get rid of the elephant in the room, is Haas going to be here next year or not? That’s obviously the question.”

Steiner though responded to Grosjean’s comments and suggested the Grosjean shouldn’t be concerned about the future of the team, but his own.

“I think his answer was the wrong answer. Because he was asked what he is doing, and he spoke for the team. I think the elephant is in his room, not in our room,” he told Sky F1.

“We know what we want to do, and if we are here or not, that will be decided once we sign the new Concorde. Everything is on the way that this will happen.

“I’m still confident that we will be here. So I think the elephant needs to go out of the room, and into Romain’s room.”

Grosjean’s future at Haas has come under some scrutiny this week following rumours that Sergio Perez could replace him if speculation that Sebastian Vettel is close to agreeing a deal with Racing Point, which would likely see the Mexican ousted.
