Ferrari team boss Mattia Binotto says both his drivers ‘know they did something wrong’ and have been urged to follow the COVID-19 protocols more closely in future.
It comes after Sebastian Vettel was warned for meeting with Red Bull’s Christian Horner and Helmut Marko last weekend, which is outside of his Ferrari team bubble – none of the trio were wearing masks either.
Meanwhile Charles Leclerc travelled back to his native Monaco between the Austrian and Styrian rounds and was seen meeting fans without wearing a mask.
Despite completing further COVID-19 tests to prove he wasn’t positive, he was warned that his actions could have put the entire paddock at risk.
Neither will face sanctions, although the FIA has the power to ban them from future events.
Binotto said he would urge them to pay closer attention to the rules in future.
“The instructions for Charles and Seb and probably the entire team are that we need really to pay attention to how important it is to be here and race for the entire circus,” he said.
“I think being distracted on the protocols is not great, we need really to be strict. So this has really raised our attention, our concentration, really paying attention.
“I think both drivers understood that they did something wrong, and I’m pretty sure they will pay more attention in the future.”
Mercedes’ Valtteri Bottas also travelled back to Monaco but was confirmed to have remained within his bubble after only being in contact with his girlfriend, who was also present at the Austrian GP.
