Formula 1 and the FIA has confirmed that no positive Coronavirus tests were returned during a seven-day period prior to the Austrian Grand Prix.

Formula 1’s opening event in Australia was cancelled amid the worsening coronavirus situation in mid-March after a team member from McLaren returned a positive test.

Formula 1 has implemented strict protocols for the revised opening round at the Red Bull Ring in Austria this weekend.

Teams have undergone testing prior to flying out from their respective countries while personnel have been kept in bubbles, away from other teams, and even away from colleagues that operate in different departments.

For example, Honda personnel that work within Red Bull Racing are not permitted to interact with their colleagues who are assigned to AlphaTauri.

Personnel attending the grand prix must undergo a test every five days while there are temperature checks on a daily basis prior to entering the facility.

Social distancing has been encouraged while the wearing of a mask within the confines of the venue is mandatory.

“The FIA and Formula 1 can today confirm that between Friday 26th June and Thursday 2nd July, 4,032 drivers, teams and personnel were tested for COVID-19. Of these, zero people have tested positive,” read a statement issued on Saturday morning.

“The FIA and Formula 1 are providing this aggregated information for the purposes of competition integrity and transparency. No specific details as to teams or individuals will be provided by the FIA or Formula 1 and results will be made public every 7 days.”

Formula 1 personnel are due to stay in Spielberg and the surrounding area for the next week, ahead of the Styrian Grand Prix at the same venue, prior to travelling across the border to Hungary.

Elsewhere NASCAR driver Jimmie Johnson and ex-F1 racer Felipe Nasr tested positive for Covid-19 on Friday.
