Racing Point first to get 2020 car back on track

Racing Point has become the first Formula 1 team to get its 2020 car back on track after running its RP20 at Silverstone on Wednesday.

Racing Point, whose headquarters is located opposite the British Grand Prix venue, is using the National Circuit to carry out mileage in its RP20 today (Wednesday).

Lance Stroll, set to enter his second year with the team, is carrying out duties for the team.

Mercedes and Renault have already carried out on-track running but both teams used their 2018-spec cars, in order to carry out substantial mileage.

Teams that have opted to undertake a filming day – each outlet is permitted two per season – can do so with a current-spec car but are restricted to 100km, which must take place on Pirelli’s promotional tyres.

Racing Point caught the eye pre-season with its RP20, which drew inspiration from last year’s title-winning Mercedes W10, a design philosophy facilitated by greater resources in the wake of Lawrence Stroll’s mid-2018 takeover.

The upcoming campaign will be its last under the Racing Point banner ahead of its transition into Aston Martin for 2021 and beyond.

Stroll Jr. and Sergio Perez both have long-term deals with the team.

AlphaTauri is also due to get its 2020 Formula 1 car, the AT01, running next Wednesday when it carries out a filming day at Imola, located 15km from its factory in Faenza.

Formula 1’s delayed season-opening round is set for 3-5 July at Spielberg, Austria.
