‘Very quick’ Mugello will snap necks warns Webber

Mark Webber has warned drivers they should be prepared to have their necks snapped if Formula 1 decides to hold a race at Italy’s Mugello circuit this season.

The Ferrari-owned circuit is potentially being lined up to host a round of the 2020 Formula 1 World Championship and could even coincide with Ferrari’s 1,000th grand prix.

Former F1 driver Webber, who has driven the circuit, has warned the that the “very, very, very, very quick” circuit will be neck breaking, but at the same time “brilliant”.

“What I do know is it will probably be 40 degrees,” Webber told the F1 Nation podcast.

“Not one driver’s head is going to stay on around that track. If they race in Mugello their necks are going to snap in half with those cars around the back – it’s so, so quick.

“I think it will be brilliant. I tested there and it’s very, very, very, very quick. So good – bring it on.”

Webber previously drove the circuit in 2012 and following that wrote on social media: “[I] did 10 dry laps today around Mugello, which is the same as doing 1,000 laps around the Abu Dhabi track in terms of satisfaction.”

F1 has yet to confirm whether the sport will visit Mugello, but it looks the most likely option in terms of an additional European round, with both Imola and Algarve vying for a place on the revised calendar.
