The Circuit of the America’s Food Drive has raised $200,000 for the Central Texas Food Bank.
COTA, located on the outskirts of Austin, Texas, has been the permanent host of the United States Grand Prix since 2012, and MotoGP’s Grand Prix of the Americas since 2013.
On Sunday it opened its doors to the public in order to allow fans to complete a lap – at slow speed – on the track layout.
20,000 guests in 7,000 vehicles completed a lap and helped to raise $200,000, which the circuit claims is enough funds to provide 1.6 million meals to people in need.
Bobby Epstein, Founder and Chairman of COTA, said: “The COTA Food Drive was a great success.
“It was a wonderful day with perfect weather and people were clearly having a blast.
“The whole experience just felt really good. My hat goes off to all the volunteers and participants who made today happen, they should be very proud! The atmosphere of giving was truly awesome.”
Formula 1’s United States Grand Prix is due to take place at the venue on October 25, with MotoGP’s postponed Grand Prix of the Americas slated for November 15.
