Red Bull driveability gains encouraging – Albon

Alexander Albon believes Red Bull Racing has addressed the weaknesses of last year’s car with its 2020 Formula 1 challenger, the RB16.

Red Bull finished third in last year’s Constructors’ Championship, taking a trio of victories courtesy of Max Verstappen, with Albon joining mid-season in place of Pierre Gasly.

Albon completed 217 laps aboard the RB16 during last week’s opening test at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya and was encouraged by the early feedback.

“I would definitively say it’s more useable, you can really feel the car is nicer to drive,” said Albon.

“I think there were always areas last year where we thought the car was a bit weak, in some places, but Max and I have quite a similar feedback and we were very clear over the winter on the direction we wanted to go into.

“Already at the first test the car already feels better, so we’ve definitively made a step forward.”

On where last year’s car struggled Albon explained that “it wasn’t one thing, it was just getting the car to be a bit nicer going around the corners.

“Not just being stable, but being able to use certain parts of the track, but it was all little things.

“Let’s say it was consistent feedback from the car last year and trying to iron them out.”
