Red Bull Racing has confirmed that Max Verstappen will remain with the team through the 2023 Formula 1 season, having signed a new multi-year deal.

Verstappen became the youngest Formula 1 driver in history when he stepped up to the championship aged 17 in 2015 with Toro Rosso, and joined Red Bull four rounds into 2016.

The Dutchman won on his Red Bull debut at the Spanish Grand Prix and has since added another seven victories to his tally.

Verstappen enjoyed his best season to date in 2019, taking third in the Drivers’ Championship, along with three victories and two pole positions.

His contract with Red Bull was set to expire at the end of 2020 but on Tuesday the marque announced a multi-year deal had been reached, linking the parties until 2023.

“I am really happy to have extended my partnership with the team,” said Verstappen.

“Red Bull believed in me and gave me the opportunity to start in Formula 1 which I have always been very grateful for.

“Over the years I have grown closer and closer with the team and besides the passion from everyone and the on-track performance it is also really enjoyable to work with such a great group of people.

“Honda coming onboard and the progress we have made over the last 12 months gives me even more motivation and the belief that we can win together.

“I respect the way Red Bull and Honda work together and from all sides everyone is doing what they can to succeed.

“I want to win with Red Bull and our goal is of course to fight for a World Championship together.”

News of Verstappen’s long-term extension follows on from Ferrari recently securing the services of Charles Leclerc through 2024.
