Following months of speculation, Haas has officially confirmed its replacement for Esteban Ocon as the team prepares for the 2027 Formula 1 season.
The American outfit has revealed that the man at the centre of F1’s silly season rumours, Rafael Camara, would join the team next season, marking the Brazilian’s debut season in the series, following an impressive Formula 2 campaign, which he currently leads.
Throughout his time in an ultra-competitive feeder ladder, Camara continuously put his name in title contention. As early as 2021, the 21-year-old claimed three consecutive karting titles in a single season.
The Brazilian then competed in series like Formula 4 and FRECA, alongside the likes of F1 championship leader Andrea Kimi Antonelli and his forthcoming teammate, Ollie Bearman.
During this time, Camara, like Bearman, joined the Ferrari Driver Academy, of which he is still part. He continued to rise through the junior categories, reaching Formula 3, where he secured the championship with a round to spare, underlining his dominance throughout the season.
With Ocon’s future formally confirmed two weeks ago, pre-existing rumours of Camara’s move grew, but there was a semblance of uncertainty, with reserve driver Jack Doohan and McLaren junior Leonardo Fornaroli joining him in recent TPC tests.
But with the confirmation now made, Camara has one last hurdle to overcome, finishing his F2 title charge.
With two rounds remaining in the competition, the 21-year-old tops the championship standings by seven points. Like compatriot and current Audi driver Gabriel Boetoleto, Camara will be eager to secure the title, heading into his debut season with back-to-back series titles.
